Haymarket Medical Education (HME) recently took center stage as a GOLD sponsor at CMEpalooza 2024, presenting a year-over-year meta-analysis of HME’s data in f narcolepsy from 2022-2024. Our presentation, Learning Progression Over Time in Narcolepsy: The Impact of Environmental Changes and How We Evaluate Behavior, took place on October 16th and highlighted the critical role of continuing education in shaping clinician performance as this landscape continues to change over time. We demonstrated that clinician knowledge and competence improved across all educational activities, especially those who participated in more than activity. Corresponding claims data indicated that among clinicians who participated in more than one activity, diagnosis increased by 67% and treatment increased by 17%.
The session featured an expert panel including HME’s own Jacqui Brooks (VP, Medical Strategy), Emily Bixler (Director of Outcomes Assessment and Evaluation), and Leanne Berger (Outcomes Assessment and Evaluations Analyst), alongside Key Opinion Leader, Dr. Anne Marie Morse, Director of Child Neurology and Pediatric Sleep Medicine at Geisinger Health System. Their insights into how the evolving narcolepsy treatment landscape impacts educational outcomes provided valuable takeaways for attendees. This session exemplifies HME’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through rigorous data analysis and high-impact educational initiatives.
In recent years, the treatment landscape in narcolepsy has burgeoned, with new treatments and new guidelines in 2021. New data and guidelines can be initially confusing for clinicians and decreases in knowledge and competence may be noted before improvements are seen.
A core aspect of the presentation was our analysis of Level 5 performance data, which uses claims data to assess behavior changes in clinical practice. This data-driven approach allows us to demonstrate measurable improvements in diagnosis and treatment, highlighting how education directly affects real-world outcomes.
If you missed the live session, the recording is available for viewing, offering another opportunity to explore how our work is shaping the future of narcolepsy care and clinician education.
